IEF’s Global Egg School Heads to Asia, Empowering Women Through Education and Sustainable Egg Production

The International Egg Foundation (IEF) is taking its Global Egg School to Asia, continuing its partnership with Lohmann Breeders to deliver practical, hands-on training to farmers from Hilltribe Organics in Northern Thailand. Delivered in the Wawee Valley region of Chiang Rai province, the programme focuses on strengthening skills in egg production to support education, economic empowerment, and long-term independence — particularly for women, who make up the majority of participating farmers.

Through the Global Egg School, IEF is supporting rural women to build sustainable agricultural livelihoods by developing the technical knowledge to increase and manage productive laying flocks. By improving egg production practices, participants are better equipped to generate reliable income and create new economic opportunities within their communities.

Hilltribe Organics works closely with smallholder farmers in remote hill tribe villages, majority of whom are women. For these women, access to training and education can be transformative. The Global Egg School provides practical poultry management skills while also helping women gain greater recognition as farmers and entrepreneurs — strengthening their role in household decision-making and community life.

Delivered with technical expertise from Lohmann Breeders, the programme offers hands-on training in key areas including layer management, flock health, housing, nutrition, and biosecurity. These skills are designed to improve productivity and support consistent, sustainable egg production — enabling farmers to build viable enterprises and move towards greater economic independence.

Cassy Price, CEO of the IEF, said:

“Education is at the core of the Global Egg School. By equipping women farmers with practical skills and knowledge, we are supporting them to build sustainable livelihoods through egg production. Economic independence creates opportunity — not only for women themselves, but for their families and wider communities.”

This initiative reflects IEF’s commitment to empowering women through education and agriculture. By investing in skills development and practical training, the Global Egg School supports women farmers to strengthen rural economies, build resilient livelihoods, and create lasting change through sustainable egg production.
