The International Egg Foundation (IEF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Poultry Welfare Alliance (IPWA), marking an important step forward in strengthening practical poultry welfare training within IEF’s global field programmes.
The agreement, signed during the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE), brings together IPWA’s science-based welfare expertise with IEF’s on-the-ground experience delivering training in regions facing nutrition and food security challenges.
Through the partnership, IPWA will provide IEF with access to its Key Welfare Indicator (KWI) Guides, alongside scientific expertise and aligned tools. IEF will apply these resources directly in the field, integrating them into farmer training and capacity-building programmes. Feedback from farmers, trainers and local partners will be shared with IPWA to ensure the guidance remains practical, relevant and effective across diverse production environments.
“IEF is focused on delivering practical solutions that strengthen egg production and nutrition outcomes in vulnerable regions,” said Bruce Dooyema, Chairman of the International Egg Foundation.
“Through our partnership with IPWA, we can apply proven welfare tools in the field while contributing farmer-led insights that help ensure guidance reflects real-world conditions.”
Improving poultry welfare is a critical component of building healthy, productive flocks, which in turn supports IEF’s mission to put more eggs into more bellies. By strengthening welfare practices alongside practical production training, IEF helps farmers improve flock performance and increase access to nutritious eggs.
IPWA highlighted the value of learning from field application in regions where resources are limited and impact is greatest.
“We are honored to support IEF’s mission and to learn from the regions where these tools matter most,” said Katy Tarrant, Chair of IPWA.
“This feedback-driven approach helps ensure our KWI Guides remain relevant, adaptable, and effective for producers around the world.”
The collaboration includes ongoing coordination between IEF and IPWA to review outcomes, share insights and identify opportunities to further tailor welfare training and science-based resources. Together, the organisations are working to ensure poultry welfare guidance supports both bird wellbeing and sustainable egg production, helping farming families improve nutrition and livelihoods.
This partnership reinforces IEF’s commitment to practical, field-led solutions that unlock the nutritional, social and economic power of the egg in communities where it can make the greatest difference.
