Breaking New Ground at Ebenezer Agricultural College, Mozambique

The IEF is pleased to announce that work has begun on a major expansion of the Poultry Training Centre at Ebenezer Agricultural College in Nampula, Mozambique.

This project follows several months of fundraising efforts led by IEF Chairman, Bruce Dooyema, and marks an important step forward in advancing poultry training and agricultural education in the region.

Expanding Facilities for Greater Training Opportunities

The expansion includes:

  • Two mid-size layer training barns, each with a capacity for 2,000 layers
  • Two smaller layer training barns, with capacities of 384 and 576 layers

Currently, the college’s Poultry Training Centre operates eight broiler houses (5m x 7m, holding 350 broilers each) and two-layer houses of the same size, holding 200 layers each.

The new barns will provide space for many more students to gain essential experience in poultry management — helping them to start small-scale farms, and in time, grow into commercial egg producers.

Improving Nutrition and Supporting Local Enterprise

Eggs produced at the expanded facility will be sold through New Horizons, helping to improve access to nutritious food in the Nampula region, where egg consumption remains among the lowest in Africa.

Students working within the facilities will also share in the profits upon graduation, supporting them as they begin their own farming ventures.

Collaboration for Long-Term Impact

This project has been made possible through the collaboration and support of our valued partners:
Versova Community Foundation, Heritage Poultry Management Services, Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Heeringa Construction, Sam Kaufman, Big Dutchman, HATO Lighting, and Hendrix Genetics.

Their combined efforts and generosity will have a lasting impact on nutrition, livelihoods, and agricultural education in Mozambique.

Next Steps

Land survey and preparation activities are now underway, marking the first phase of construction for the new Poultry Training Centre barns.
