Producers’ Organisations Capacity building project – South African region
In 2014, the International Egg Foundation joined forces with the FAO and
members of the private poultry industry and development partners in the
Southern African region for a capacity development programme aimed
at strengthening poultry producers in the region to fully exploit the
potential role of poultry production in achieving food security.
The programme created a series of meetings in Lusaka, Zambia, Johannesburg, South Africa and Harare, Zimbabwe. 'The National Workshop on Strengthening Poultry Producers Through Organized Action in Zimbabwe' was a three-day national workshop held 3-5 December 2014 in Harare,
Zimbabwe.
The objectives were to:
- Engage participants in an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats linked to the development of egg and poultry meat production in Zimbabwe;
- Create a common vision for the development/strengthening of the poultry value chain, particularly for strengthening poultry producers through organized action; and
- Define with intervening actors, producers, institutional and economic actors, the major lines of a capacity strengthening action plan.
